AlfaTech provided mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineering services for the renovation of Subaru’s R&D Facility in Tustin. This project transformed a 17,500 SF, single-story building with a mezzanine into a state-of-the-art facility, integrating efficient, code-compliant systems while preserving key architectural elements like existing rooftop skylights.

The scope included HVAC distribution, power upgrades, and energy-efficient LED lighting with tunable and dimmable controls. Fire/life safety enhancements featured new sprinkler distribution and fire alarm designs. Specialty systems were incorporated to support Subaru’s research and development functions, including EV charging stations, vehicle turntables, compressed air systems, and tailored solutions for a clay modeling shop, such as air tempering and specialty exhaust.

Plumbing upgrades  included new restroom fixtures, hospitality space enhancements, and code-compliant hydraulic designs. Existing electrical panels were evaluated and reused where feasible, while mechanical ducting was modified to accommodate new rooftop HVAC units. Additional improvements included CO-monitored workshop fans, localized dust collection for the woodshop, air circulation systems, and a dedicated 24/7 CRAC unit for the IT room and server/render farm.

To enhance flexibility, the facility was equipped with retractable power reels, adaptable lighting controls, and structured cabling coordination for AV, IT, and security infrastructure.

AlfaTech’s forward-thinking design prioritized energy efficiency and sustainability, aligning with Subaru’s environmental goals while creating a high-performance research and development space.
